Couples/Family Counselling
Couples and/or family counselling is a type of therapy that is designed to help couples (and family members) improve their relationship by working to address conflicts, enhance communication, and help to foster greater empathy, affection and connection. Couples therapy sessions typically involve helping couples identify and resolve issues that impact their relationship, working to build stronger connections, and ultimately facilitating the development of healthier patterns of interaction and communication.
Perinatal/Postpartum Support
What is perinatal mental health?
Perinatal mental health refers to a person's mental health during pregnancy, and after a baby is born (postpartum). Feelings such as anxiety, irritability, and depression can be common, especially for those who may have struggled with these issues prior to becoming a parent. Other symptoms can include those of obsessive-compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, or more severe symptoms relating to psychosis.
In Canada, one in five women experience symptoms of anxiety and depression in the perinatal period, but in our province the rate is higher at one in four.
When to get support?
-
Having a therapist to support you in pregnancy or postpartum can be a valuable and proactive tool to help you in your parenting journey- you don't need to wait for something to feel "wrong" to seek out support!
-
You may need support if you are experiencing feelings of sadness, depression, anger, panic, guilt, or hopelessness. Also, if you experience trouble bonding with your baby, changes in appetite or intrusive thoughts that are difficult to stop focusing on.

Parenting Support
Parenting can be deeply rewarding, but it also comes with challenges—especially when children or teens are facing difficult moments. Tia works alongside families using a connection-based approach rooted in interpersonal neurobiology. Her goal is to help parents and caregivers strengthen bonds, repair relationships, and create lasting positive change.
Through her work, Tia has seen how small, meaningful moments of connection can have a powerful impact—helping children, teens, and parents feel more secure, understood, and supported. With Connected Parenting™, she guides families in using empathy and understanding as the foundation for stronger, healthier relationships.
Tia provides families with practical tools and proven techniques to:
• Apply neuroscience-based strategies to navigate parenting struggles with confidence.
• Receive guidance and support during high-stress situations, with debriefing as needed.
• Follow a structured system designed to help families build deeper, more connected relationships.
• Repair and strengthen connections with teens during challenging stages of development.
With the right support, parenting can feel more manageable—and family life more connected and fulfilling.

Indiviudal Reiki Sessions
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive Japanese energy healing modality discovered in the early 20th century.
Rei, meaning higher intelligence, or subtle wisdom
Ki meaning energy or life force.
Ki naturally flows and circulates though all living things. It’s fundamental to well-being, balancing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Stress, anxieties, grief, negative thinking patterns, etc., disrupt the flow of Ki creating negative impacts or blocks. These blocks manifest as physical complaints, including muscle tension, fatigue, chronic pain, gut problems, and headaches.
Reiki promotes healing through relaxation and stress reduction. It helps the body relax, brings emotional balance, clarity and self-awareness. It flows through the body removing negative energy blocks and charging affected areas with positive energy. It increases the life force within the body and brings it back into balance.
Reiki goes to where it is needed most, healing overtime.

Holistic Nutrition
Holistic nutrition is a whole-person approach to wellness that considers the connection between body, mind, and lifestyle. Rather than focusing on a one-size-fits-all diet, we look at your unique needs — including how stress, sleep, emotions, and environment impact your health — to create a personalized plan that supports long-term balance and well-being.
Our focus is on whole, natural, minimally processed foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, quality proteins, and healthy fats. Instead of simply managing symptoms, we work to identify underlying imbalances, support the body’s natural healing processes, and build sustainable habits.
Holistic nutrition planning may include:
-
Balanced whole-food meal structure
-
Mindful eating education (hunger/fullness cues and emotional connections to food)
-
Stress management practices
-
Sleep support strategies
-
Movement recommendations
-
Hydration guidance
-
Supplement recommendations (if appropriate)
Services Offered:
-
Initial Nutrition Assessment & Consultation
-
Follow-Up Sessions
-

If you’re looking for something more tailored, fully customized plans are available to meet your individual goals and lifestyle.

Behavioural Supports and Services
Behavioural interventions are evidence-based approaches that focus on understanding the “why” behind behaviour and using that insight to support meaningful, lasting change. Grounded in the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), our services are designed to build skills, increase independence, and enhance overall quality of life in ways that are practical, respectful, and individualized.
We offer these services through Ashley Martin, RSW, BCBA

Parent Education & Coaching
Parent education and coaching sessions provide caregivers with practical, evidence-based strategies to better understand and support their child’s behaviour and emotional development. These sessions focus on building caregiver skills through guided coaching from a BCBA, ensuring strategies are both effective and sustainable. Caregivers learn how to support skill development, respond to and manage challenging behaviour, and create structured, supportive home environments that promote long-term success.
RUBI Parent Training Program
The RUBI Parent Training Program is a formal, evidence-based approach designed to support caregivers in managing challenging behaviours in children. The program is time-limited, typically ranging from 12 to 16 weeks depending on the needs of the family, with sessions delivered in a structured, sequential format that builds on skills each week to support consistency and meaningful progress. RUBI focuses on teaching practical, effective strategies to reduce behaviours such as tantrums, aggression, and non-compliance, while building skills that promote positive behaviour and daily routines. Through step-by-step guidance, caregivers learn how to respond more effectively and confidently in real-life situations.
Behavioral Support Services
Behavior Support Services are designed to address challenging behaviors at home by providing hands-on, practical support directly within your family’s daily environment. This service focuses on concerns such as tantrums, aggression, difficulty with transitions, non-compliance, and challenges with routines.
As part of this service, a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) will complete a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) to better understand the reasons behind your child’s behaviour. Based on this assessment, an individualized Behavior Support Plan will be developed to guide intervention and ensure strategies are effective, consistent, and tailored to your child’s needs.
During sessions, a clinician works alongside you in real-time—observing, modelling strategies, and coaching you through how to respond in the moment. This allows you to build skills and confidence in managing behaviours as they occur, using approaches that fit naturally within your home.
ABA Services
ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) Services focus on helping individuals learn meaningful skills and reduce behaviours that may interfere with daily life. Using evidence-based strategies, this service supports the development of communication, social, emotional, and daily living skills in a structured and supportive way.
Services begin with a comprehensive assessment completed by a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) to understand your child’s strengths, needs, and goals. Based on this, an individualized intervention plan is developed to target specific skill areas such as language development, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence.
ABA sessions involve direct, one-on-one support where skills are taught step-by-step using positive, practical strategies. Progress is closely monitored, and programs are adjusted over time to ensure meaningful and lasting outcomes.
Individual Counselling
Individual counselling services at Lumina Social Work and Behavioural Services offer a supportive, collaborative space to explore challenges, build coping skills, and work toward meaningful goals. Using a trauma-informed and neurodivergent-affirming approach, counselling can support concerns such as anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, life transitions, and behaviour-related challenges. There is also a strong focus on supporting caregivers experiencing burnout and overwhelm, with practical strategies to reduce stress and build resilience. Sessions are tailored to each individual and may integrate approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) alongside skill-based supports, helping clients move forward with greater confidence and well-being.
Social Work & Behavioural Consultation
Consultation services are available for families, agencies, schools, and professionals seeking expert guidance related to behavioural challenges, program development, or complex support needs. Consultation may include case review, strategy development, behavioural planning, or training for caregivers and staff teams.
